Description

Newport Beach is 1.3km long sandy beach. The middle of the beach faces South-East, exposed to the Pacfic Ocean.
It is on Ocean Swell Beach, surrounded by a residential area and extensive carpark.

Location

Newport Beach is 31km North of Sydney. It can be accessed by Car only or Bus, off Barrenjoey Road, Newport.
North of Newport Beach is Bilgola Beach. South is Mona Vale Beach. To the west is Pittwater.

Name

Newport was a 'New Port' for passengers and cargo on Steamers coming into Pittwater. There are still extensive marinas and wharves on the Pittwater side of the Suburb.
The Newport Arms tavern gives a good view of this side of the waterway.

Highlights

Great BBQ area, perfect for a beach lunch or summer dinner. Newport Arms tavern on the Pittwater side is always worth a visit.

Newport has its own SLSC. Beach is patrolled from September to April, usually weekends and public holidays only.

Beach is wide open, picking up available swell. Best waves usually towards North.
From the Northern carpark there is a track that heads North behind the beach, up along the Northern Headland then down to Bilgola Beach.

Newport Surf Breaks

The north reef break is known at The Peak, it works best in SE swells and W to NW winds. Fairly consistent break with both left and right rides.
Newport Beach Breaks are consistent. Best swell from the E or SE - offshore winds are W - NW. Left and Right rides, works in any tide.
The south reef break is known as Crosswaves. Works in swell from E or SE, so is fairly consistent. Right Hand break.
